Opening Prompt

Tell me what you learned about God this week?

Let me share with you what I learned about God this week…

Focus: Jesus helps His church grow when everyone does their part.

  • Tell: Tell your kids about a time when someone in the church helped you grow in your faith. It may have been a pastor, a friend, a parent, a teacher, or someone who encouraged you when you needed it.
  • Share: Share how God does not want His people to follow Him alone. He gives His church people with different gifts to help one another.
  • Ask: What is one way someone has helped you learn about Jesus?

Read this Scripture with your family:

Ephesians 4:11-16

11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

Talk about this devotional thought:

God did not design His people to grow all by themselves. He made the church like a body, where every part matters and every part has a job to do. Just like your body needs hands, feet, eyes, and ears to work together, the church needs every believer to do their part too. Some people teach. Some encourage. Some serve. Some help. Some lead. Some pray faithfully. Instead of comparing ourselves to others, we should celebrate how God has gifted others and using others. God gives different gifts to different people, but every gift matters because every gift helps the church grow.

Everyone can understand this by thinking about their own family. In a family, everyone has a part. In the same way, in God’s family, everyone matters. No believer is unimportant. Jesus is the head of the church, and He helps His people grow when they love, serve, and speak truth to one another.

Questions to Ask

  • Why do you think God gives different gifts to different people?
  • What are some ways people in church help each other?
  • How can our family help build up God’s church this week?

(Tip for parents: Let kids answer freely. There’s no rush to correct everything. The goal is conversation, not perfection.)

Prayer

“Dear God, thank You for giving Your people different gifts. Help us use what You have given us to help others and to grow more like Jesus.”

Monthly Memory Verse

Ephesians 4:32

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”
