Opening Prompt

Tell me what you learned about God this week?

Let me share with you what I learned about God this week…

Focus: God wants husbands and wives to stick together like super glue.

  • Tell: Show your kids two things that stick together really well (like two Lego bricks snapped tight, a piece of strong tape stuck to paper, or Velcro). Show them how hard it is to pull them apart.
  • Share: Share a simple way you and your spouse (or the adults leading the home) act like a team, like washing dishes together or helping each other get the kids ready for bed.
  • Ask: What are some things our family does together as a team?

Read this Scripture with your family:

He answered, “Have you not read that he who created them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” Matthew 19:4–6

Talk about this devotional thought:

Jesus is teaching us about God’s very first plan for husbands and wives. He says that when a man and a woman get married, something great happens. They aren’t just two separate people living in the same house anymore. God makes them “one.”

Jesus says marriage is like husbands and wives loving each other and working as one big team forever. He wants them to stick together tight, just like those Legos we looked at earlier.

Questions to Ask

  • What is the stickiest thing you can think of? (Glue, peanut butter, syrup, tape?)
  • Jesus says God joins husbands and wives together to be “one.” How can we help Mom and Dad stick together as a happy team this week?.
  • Why do you think God likes it when our family works together as one team?

(Tip for parents: Let kids answer freely. There’s no rush to correct everything. The goal is conversation, not perfection.)

Prayer

Each day this week, pray this short prayer together:

“Dear God, thank You for making families. Thank You for putting Mom and Dad together. Help our whole family stick together like super glue and love each other the way You love us.”

Monthly Memory Verse

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
