Opening Prompt

Tell me what you learned about God this week?

Let me share with you what I learned about God this week…

Focus: You are made in the image of God, and God created and shaped you.

  • Tell: Tell your kids about a time when you struggled to understand who you were or where you belonged. Share how you may have felt confused, but how the Bible helped you understand.
  • Share: Share how God’s Word has helped you understand who you truly are. Explain that God created you with purpose and care, and that your identity begins with Him, and not with opinions, feelings, or trends.
  • Ask: Ask your kids:
    • Where do people today look to figure out who they are?
    • Why do you think it’s important to know what God says about us?
    • What do you think it means to be made in God’s image?

Read this Scripture with your family:

“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…’

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.”

Genesis 1:26-27

Talk about this devotional thought:

From the very beginning, the Bible tells us something beautiful and important about who we are. We are created by God. God didn’t make a mistake when He made people. Every person is intentionally created by Him and deeply valued. God tells us who we are—not culture, not feelings, and not opinions. He created humanity as male and female, both made in His image, both equally valuable, and both designed with purpose.

Sin has broken the way we see ourselves and others, but Jesus came to restore what was broken. Through Jesus, our identity is not something we have to create; it is something we receive. We are loved, forgiven, and made new in Him. Because we are made in God’s image and redeemed by Christ, our identity is secure. We don’t have to search for who we are, but we discover it by knowing God.

Questions to Ask

  • What does it mean to be made in God’s image?
  • Why is it good to let God define who we are?
  • How does knowing God created you help you feel secure?
  • What does Jesus do to restore what sin has broken?
  • How can we treat others with kindness and respect because they are image-bearers too?

(Tip for parents: Let kids answer freely. There’s no rush to correct everything. The goal is conversation, not perfection.)

Prayer

Pray this prayer together:

“God, thank You for creating us in Your image. Thank You for loving us and giving us purpose. Help us trust what You say about who we are, and help us follow Jesus as we grow. Teach us to love others the way You love us. Amen.”

Monthly Memory Verse

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him.”

Genesis 1:27
