We exist to help people in the upstate
to connect with Jesus to change their world

OUR CORE VALUES

Prayer is the foundation of all that we do because without God we can accomplish nothing.
We seek to worship Him with our whole lives, mind, body, and spirit (Matthew 6:33 & 22:37).

We are real people who are honest about our flaws. We are a genuine, transparent, united
group of believers who are devoted to biblical truth (1 John 1:8-9, Matthew 23:25-27, & John 13:35).

We want to be known as passionate disciple-makers, committed to engaging the culture
both locally and globally by reaching and teaching others to become followers of Christ. This will not happen accidentally.
Our goal is to lead new believers on a journey of growth and true fulfillment. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 2:17, & Acts 1:8).

We are a church that values every person at every life stage and circumstance.
Married, single, divorced, or widowed, you are an important part of our family. We desire to build a community of support
where relationships thrive. Our goal is to create safe and exciting environments where children love to attend and their parents are prepared for the journey (Psalm 100:5).

We don’t just want to be people who give. We desire to be known as extremely generous investors.
We really believe it’s better to give than to receive, and we want to invest in people (Acts 20:35 & 2 Corinthians 9:7).

We want to stand out as a church that cares more about other people than ourselves.
We see serving others as a lifestyle, not an event (1 Peter 5:6).

Life happens in community, and we want to intentionally build and reproduce environments
that nurture relationships. We are created with a need for other people, and we believe life is better when we are together (Acts 2:42-47).

Baptist churches, associations, and general bodies have adopted confessions of faith as a witness to the world, and as instruments of doctrinal accountability. We are not embarrassed to state before the world that these are doctrines we hold precious and as essential to the Baptist tradition of faith and practice.  Our living faith is established upon eternal truths. Read the BAPTIST FAITH & MESSAGE HERE.

We desire to help people in the upstate
to connect with Jesus to change their world

We believe this is only the beginning. Throughout 2022 & 2023, we were in a two year initiative – One! We are ONE Church, with ONE Prayer and ONE Life to bring people to Jesus!
To see how god has worked over the past two years, read our ONE CELEBRATION.

Beginning in 2024 and continuing through 2025, we will be intentionally growing Deeper. Deeper in Connection, community, commitment, and commission.

Wayne Bray

Lead Pastor

I’m just an ordinary guy, but God has given me an extraordinary passion and vision for his church. I am a team-building strategist who cares most about the advancement of the gospel of Christ and the accomplishment of His mission. God has given me an undying passion for the mission of First Baptist Simpsonville / Upstate Church. I truly love my church family. They are the best! This is an uncommon moment in time when God is doing a new thing, and I feel so blessed to be a part of it. Amy is my life, but our kids are pretty cool, too. Nothing makes me happier than seeing our five children serve the Lord faithfully. Go Braves!

Brian Owens

Executive Pastor of Operations

After 14 years of experience leading people and business operations at Citibank in Louisville, Kentucky and also serving as a local bi-vocational pastor, I felt God inviting me to join the staff here at First Baptist Simpsonville / Upstate Church in 2009. I’m convinced that the previous season of life provided the right mix of experience and opportunity to equip me to serve this amazing church family for the past 13 years. Our family loves this place and all the incredible people here! I’m excited to lead at a church dedicated to authentic community, meaningful spirituality, and loving action. This is a family of faith committed to helping people make a connection with Jesus in order to change their world. I attended Moody Bible Institute (1991-1995) where I received a Bachelors in Christian Ministry and a Masters in Theology from Campbellsville University (2005). In 1995, I married the love of my life, Sheri (1969-2021), and during our 25 years together, we’ve had the pleasure of raising 4 spectacular children: Gideon, Titus, Lydia, and Levi.

Wes Walker

Executive Pastor of Creative Arts

I love getting to do what I do with FBS UC! My job allows me to lead worship with an amazing team, create spaces for worship with a great production team, along with multi-site design, and share what God is doing in and through our church with our stellar communications team. Absolutely love the people I serve with and we desire for people to experience Jesus in a way that will change their world. My family moved here in the summer of 2016 from Atlanta GA. My favorite people on God's earth are my wife Jana, and kids Michaela, Madison, Luken, Maleah, and Colton. We love the beach, good food, a good Netflix binge and just being together.

Steve Genoble

Executive Pastor of Missions

My service at First Baptist Simpsonville/Upstate Church began in September of 1992 as Student Minister. I was passionate about bringing students to know and follow Jesus! One of the things that drew me to Simpsonville was that our church placed high priority on missions. Now, I have the great privilege of serving as the Executive Pastor of Missions. Getting to serve alongside members on trips and witness their gifts is my greatest joy. When I am not serving in the church, you can find me working out at the gym, relaxing with my family, watching College Football or Golfing. My wife Kim and I have two adult children. We love hanging out with them and their families. Being able to spend time with our 5 grandchildren brings so much joy to our lives.

Pat Gillen

Executive Pastor of Families
Fountain Inn Teaching Pastor

I love seeing all generations grow spiritually in my role as an Executive Pastor. It’s such a joy to be a part of a church that cares about every generation and helps raise up the ones that are coming behind them. God is doing some incredible things and it’s exciting! Our family moved here in 2016 to be a part of this team and it has been a great ride so far. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching movies, and working on my classic Mustang.

Stephen Williams

Executive Pastor of Disciple Making

I have been blessed with the opportunity to serve at FBS/UC since July 2023. My main focus is to point people to Christ and help them take their next steps in their walk with Him. I am passionate about developing leaders in the local church context who are empowered to go beyond themselves to serve Christ. It is amazing to witness the incredible things God is doing at FBS/UC, and I feel honored to be part of this journey. I am also truly blessed to have Alicia as my wife and two daughters, Sarah and Raegan.

Kathy Robinson

Senior Director of Strategy

God brought our family of 5 to South Carolina from Pennsylvania when our children were in K5, 4th and 7th grade. What drew us to this church then was its commitment to teaching God's Word, love for one another and focus on discipling children. Nineteen years later, we can say the same thing...and add to it the focus on reaching lost people in the Upstate!! One of my first volunteer roles shortly after we joined the church was to help start our "Satellite Campus". Now, we're on the verge of having 6 campuses. To say it's been a blessing to see God at work is an understatement!! In addition to reaching people through our campus expansion, as a biblical counselor I've been able to help people seek God through His Word to find the freedom and answers they need to navigate the inevitable challenges this world brings. I've had many roles since joining the staff over 13 years ago. My current role as Strategy Director allows me to use my skills and experience in the business world, as well as the various ministry positions I've held, to support our talented team in streamlining strategic initiatives and facilitating collaboration across ministry areas and campuses. Hiking or tandem bicycling with my husband, Bill, as well as reading and doing jigsaw puzzles are some of my favorite things to do.

Russell Hill

Senior Director of Operations

I enjoy working with Finance and Facilities mainly because each day is something different. Coming from the banking world, I get to use what I enjoy about numbers on the finance side, but the facilities issues require a much different skill set. I also enjoy working with both because it allows me to work with each employee here at the church. There is not much that happens at any of our campuses that does not require either financial or facility resources, so I get to help out with so many different events and projects. I started attending First Baptist Simpsonville not long before meeting my wife, who also attended here. We were married in 2009 and have 3 awesome kids! I enjoy camping and hiking when I can, and hanging out with family and friends.

Josh Morton

Senior Director of Creative Arts

At First Baptist Simpsonville | Upstate Church, I have the privilege of leading our creatives, artists, musicians, and production technicians of all ages. My aim is to help them leverage their God given talents to worship Jesus, and clearly communicate the Gospel to the Upstate of South Carolina. The Upstate is near and dear to me, and my wife Hannah. I grew up in northern Greenville county, and Hannah grew up in Anderson county. Although we grew up in South Carolina, we come to First Baptist Simpsonville | Upstate Church from Fredericksburg, VA where I served for four years as a worship and fine arts pastor. We have one daughter named Ashton Greer (we call her Greer or A.G. for short), and she is the joy of our lives. If you are wondering what the Morton’s are doing outside of church, we’re probably glued to the TV watching the Atlanta Braves win.

Dallas Wilson

Haywood Teaching Pastor
Spiritual Formation Team Leader

I love being a part of the team at Upstate Church! Having the opportunity to preach every week at an Upstate Church Campus is such a blessing to my life. This church has been such a blessing to my little family. I moved to the Upstate with my wife Jenna and my little girl Dani in 2018. Since then, we've added another little girl, made countless friends, and seen God move in big ways! If you can't find me at the church I am probably putting together puzzles with Dani, watching movies with Jenna, writing never-ending papers for class, or doing CrossFit at CrossFit Fountain Inn!

Dustin Dozier

Five Forks Teaching Pastor
Connections Director

I absolutely love being a part of what God is doing in and through our church! Being one of the teaching pastors, not only do I get the privilege to lead the Five Forks campus but thoroughly enjoy teaching at all of our campuses to see what God is doing throughout the Upstate. Dustin and his wife, Sloan, along with their 3 boys joined the team in the summer of 2018. In Dustin’s spare time he enjoys spending time with his family, working on home projects, and grilling all kinds of everything on his Big Green Egg.

Ashley Moore

Mauldin Teaching Pastor
Upstate Sports Director

There is no better place to serve than FBS/UC. As the teaching pastor at our Mauldin Campus and Upstate Sports Director, I have the privilege to see God work in unique and powerful ways on a daily basis. I came to FBS/UC in 2006 from Louisville, KY with my wife, Carrie, and two kids, Caroline and Carter. Good books, a cup of coffee and a substantial pen are a few of my favorite things.

Corey Watson

Harrison Bridge Teaching Pastor
Evangelism Director

One of the main reasons that I love FBS/UC is the God-sized vision to reach the Upstate! I get to play a part in that through our amazing student team as we seek to connect students throughout the Upstate with Jesus. The community that this church brings is unprecedented and another perk of the position! I started this position in January 2022. My wife (Melody), daughter (Anna Grace- 3), and I moved to the area not long after I started at FBS/UC. We love the area more and more each day. In my spare time, I love hanging with my family, chasing a toddler around, working out, watching sports (Go Gamecocks!), and traveling.

Will Bray

Anderson Teaching Pastor
Discipleship Director / Young Adult Minister

I love Upstate Church! I get to shepherd our Campus in Anderson and love the discipleship relationships that I get to build with college students across our church. We have an amazing team at First Baptist Simpsonville/Upstate Church and I am so thankful to be a part. I just bought my first house in Anderson this last year and am excited about this next season. I love the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs, and Dallas Cowboys. So you could say 2021 was a good year. In my free time I play a lot of Catan and pickle ball with friends and love to watch a good movie!

Hayden Crompton

Fountain Inn Teaching Pastor
Equipping Director

I joined the First Baptist Simpsonville | Upstate Church team in 2024 and it has been such a joy. I have the privilege of serving on the spiritual formation team, and my heart is to help “equip the saints” like Paul says in Ephesians 4. I am passionate about making disciples and multiplying churches, and I cannot wait to see what God will do in the Upstate through our church. Besides Jesus, Hailey is the best thing that has ever happened to me. We've been married since August of 2016, and we have two boys: Beckett (5) and Baylor (3). My favorite things include being outside with Hailey and the boys, coffee, and the Braves.

Chuck Fuller

Teaching Pastor Team Researcher

I joined the Teaching Team in August 2021. My wife, Jessie, and I grew up in Madisonville, Kentucky, and have been married since 2002. We have two teenage children, Kaylen and Ian, who attend Clemson Classical Academy. I am also Director of the Honors Program and Associate Professor of Christian Studies at Anderson University. Before moving to Anderson in 2010, I was a local church pastor for 13 years. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies from Campbellsville University, and hold both Master of Divinity and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. My primary emphasis in PhD work was homiletical theology, with additional studies in philosophy and systematic theology. In my free time, I enjoy travel, hiking, and kayaking. If I had money and time, I would be a performance car guru!

Stephen Cutchins

Teaching Pastor

Stephen Cutchins serves as Executive Director at Southern Evangelical Seminary (SES) in Charlotte, NC, and as a Teaching Pastor at First Baptist Simpsonville / Upstate Church. Before transitioning to full-time higher education work in 2024, he served for seven years as the Senior Pastor of a church with over 3,000 members. With over two decades in ministry, Dr. Cutchins has been a Worship Pastor, Discipleship Pastor, and Student Pastor, serving in SC, NC, GA, and TX. Both he and his wife Wendy are Christian marriage counselors and Prepare/Enrich certified facilitators. Wendy, who earned a Doctorate in Educational Innovation in 2024, has over 20 years of experience teaching in public and private settings. In 2023, they established The Cutchins Institute, LLC, to advance their goals in consulting, speaking, writing, counseling, coaching, and more. Living in Augusta, GA, with Wendy and their daughters, Madi and Sarah, Dr. Cutchins enjoys golfing, running, and performing as a musician. He also loves traveling and serves as a representative for the world-class travel company, Travel With Friends, facilitating other pastors and leaders to start leading trips. His passions include family time, teaching the Word of God, and sharing God's grace.

Randy Kirby

Blended Worship Pastor Member Care Director

There are so many advantages to serving for many years in the same church! A,though we served in two other churches full time before coming here, my wife, Lynne, and I have been here at First Baptist Simpsonville for over 27 years now, and we love this church and the people more and more the longer we stay. For all of this time, I have served as the “Minister of Music” (it’s now called “Worship Pastor”) and I lead worship and direct our Worship Choir & Orchestra in our 8:30 blended and 9:50 blended/traditional services at our Downtown Campus. But recently I was also asked to take on the role of “Director of Member Care”, which includes leading a team of people who serve as “pastoral care” volunteers - helping care for our members and their families through hospital & bereavement ministry in all five of our campus sites. Member Care also includes ministry to our senior adults in all of our campuses. We believe that First Baptist Simpsonville truly is a church for the Upstate, and we are excited to see - and be a part of - how God is moving and working in and through these campus sites to reach more people for His kingdom!

Rob White

Minister of Senior Adults & Member Care

It is an honor and privilege to serve as your Senior Adult Minister. During 47 years of ministry as Pastor and Associate Pastor, I have always loved people, especially the senior saints. My wife, Sandy, and I were born in Atlanta, Georgia and moved to South Carolina in 1989. As the interim Pastor of New Hope Baptist Church, (now Upstate Church Mauldin) we were able to walk with them through their transition period and loved what we saw God doing at FBS/Upstate Church. We are so blessed to be a part of what God is doing during these days. Sandy and I have been married for almost 60 years. God has blessed us with 3 children, 9 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. We are truly a blessed couple. God is doing great things through Upstate Church Simpsonville!

Larry Rockwell

Modern Worship Director

When God called me to Upstate Church/First Baptist Simpsonville in 2016, I had no idea that I would see Him move so powerfully in the Upstate! Having a front row seat to His glory, watching multiple campuses worship, and seeing Jesus radically change lives has been absolutely incredible! And this is only the beginning! The fact that I get to work with so many amazing people who have a heart for, and a mind-blowing talent for worshipping God is truly one of my greatest blessings. I am thankful for our leadership, volunteers, and our congregation for being all in and bringing the awesomeness of the gospel to the Upstate! Music has always been such an awesome part of my life! I am so thankful that I get to share the beautiful gift of music with my amazing wife Katie, in worship and in venues all around South Carolina! We are blessed with 3 wonderful kids in our blended family and the sweetest German Shepherd (Moses) you will ever meet! In our free time you will find us playing music, or burning up the highways and campgrounds on our motorcycles!

Jen Trest

Communications Director

One of the biggest perks of being Communications Director is being able to work with practically every team on our staff and with many key leaders within our membership! Helping ministries effectively communicate their events and reach those within our church and community to ultimately see them in a relationship with Christ brings me so much joy! My family found Upstate Church Harrison Bridge shortly after we moved to South Caroline 7 years ago. We've loved being a part of a multi-site church that is truly about bringing Jesus to the Upstate. In my spare time, I homeschool 2 of my children, (having graduated two already!), raise backyard chickens, and drink way too much Diet Coke.

Emily Toole

Kids Director

Kids of all ages learning about Jesus in safe, creative, and engaging environments with consistent, equipped leaders is my ministry and passion. As Kids Director, I love developing processes and programs that will help leaders truly minister to kids and their families by seeking to create consistent, relational, and gospel-centered environments geared toward discipleship across all of our campuses. Helping leaders grow in their ministry is one of the greatest joys of my role. My husband and I moved to South Carolina in 2019 to be a part of what God is doing in this ministry and in the Upstate. In our free time, we thoroughly enjoy spending time outdoors with our family and visiting the mountains and the beach.

Tom Tripp

Production Director

Coming from a career designing performing arts systems, my role serving our church is the perfect blend of logistics and creativity. I love pushing our potential to create engaging services that eliminate distraction and allow our people to experience moments with their Creator. In my spare time I enjoy reading, hanging out with my dog, and trying to keep my house plants alive.

Johnny Kittrell

Worship Director

My wife and I have deeply loved and felt called to the Upstate for many years and are beyond thrilled to partner in ministry with FBS/UC! Outside of meeting Jesus, my wife Missy is the best thing to ever happen to me. We have a daughter named Skye and a son named River. If you couldn't tell by our kids' names, we love being in God's beautiful creation--especially in the mountains. My other hobbies include leading people into worship, teaching God's Word, writing music, working out and playing video games (yes, I'm a nerd, I know).

James Hill

Facilities Director

Working with the Facilities Team brings different challenges and opportunity everyday. I enjoy working with my hands and helping solve problems. I have been married to my wife Kristy for 30 years. We have two children, Emily 27, married to Carson Adkins and Gibson 23. Emily and Carson just had our first Grand Daughter in August, Mallie Paige. I enjoy being outdoors, especially gardening and landscaping. We also enjoy raising golden retrievers as a family hobby. I enjoy worship through music and small group Bible study.

Brandon Shiley

Student Director

I love Upstate Church! My freshman year at Anderson University, I got connected with Upstate Church to start helping with students. Not only forming relationships with students, but forming friendships with other staff members has truly been a dream. I can’t imagine being a part of another staff where they prioritize discipleship and raising up the next generation of leaders more than we do! A little bit about myself, I’m from North Augusta, SC and have an awesome family. I have an older sister and a younger brother (love being the middle child)! I graduate from Anderson in the spring of 2022, and will begin the residency at upstate church! In my free time, you will probably catch me hanging out with my friends, watching sports, or playing below average golf! Go gamecocks!

Kyle Booth

Production Coordinator

I have been serving with our worship teams since 2019, and was able to join the production staff in September of 2022! After graduating from Anderson University, and now being apart of the Upstate Church Anderson Campus, I feel incredibly blessed to continue building relationships in Anderson, and encounter disciple opportunities in the community. I love listening to, playing, and producing music, but also really enjoy sitting down and building Lego sets, especially with friends.

Luken Walker

Lighting Coordinator

I moved here from Atlanta GA in 2016 and have been volunteering and working for Upstate Church since 2017. I’m doing everything I can to help out in the different places where the church needs it while growing my own walk with Christ and helping others with theirs! I go to Greenville Tech, and I am on our production team with my main focus being lighting design, though I do help out in every other aspect I can. I am always working even when I shouldn’t be, and you will never catch me not trying to make adjustments to make everything as perfect as I can. Outside of work, I’m always listening to music, so you might see me with my headphones in, or looking at cars I want to buy but can’t afford.

Jack Martin

Worship Coordinator

I grew up in the upstate not far from Simpsonville, and got connected with Upstate Students in 2018, when I was in college. The opportunity to be creative in helping to put together worship services that point people to Jesus is my favorite thing about my job. I love how our church feels like a family, and am so thankful to be a part of it. I met my wife, Alise, at our church and we were so excited to have so many from our church family surrounding us at our wedding in May, 2022. In my free time I love to watch football, play football, watch movies, and spend time with my dogs.

Jonathan Shorter

Video Content Creator

I have spent almost the entirety of my life in the Upstate. I have a great love for it and its people. Being a part of this church is a dream come true, because of its heart for people and serving God while ministering to Upstate, SC. My goal is to help further the mission of this church by providing video content that glorifies God and helps spread the Gospel.

Lauren Dibble

Digital Media Coordinator

I’m originally from Hartsville, SC but I fell in love with the Upstate while attending North Greenville University. I graduated in 2021 with a degree in Digital Media. I started working at First Baptist Simpsonville | Upstate Church in February 2024 and it has been a joy getting to work here! I’m excited to see all that the Lord will continue to do through FBS|UC. In my free time, you can find me serving coffee with my friends at Mountain Goat in Greenville, playing sports, or spending time outside.

Caleb Hughey

Technical Coordinator

I have only been a part of Upstate Church / First Baptist Simpsonville for a couple of months now but have felt right at home. With having prior experience in integration with Music Maker USA I have found my passion in production. Being a part of creating a distraction free service so that people can have a moment with their creator is why I love doing what I do. In my free time I love to practice mixing, hang with friends and family and go through training courses.

Carlos Galarza

Campus Life Minister
Haywood Espanol

I’m Carlos Galarza, teaching pastor at Upstate Church Espanol. I live in Taylors with my beloved Rita and we are very close to our daughter Stefanie and her family. Josh is our son-in-law and our grandkids are Lincoln-11, Adeline-7 and Oliver-6. We were born in Peru and lived in Colombia and Connecticut before the Lord settled us down in Greenville 17 years ago. I praise the Lord for the privilege to serve Him since 2012 at Laurel BC. Our ministry is mostly with people from Guatemala. Spanish is their second language, so we have adapted to share and grow with them in spite of the language barriers (Mt.28:19) There are more nationalities now and we look forwards to reaching more Hispanics with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Greg Hellams

Campus Life Minister

What a privilege to serve within a body of believers whose central focus is connecting others with Jesus and to walk alongside as their world gloriously changes. I’m an old time storyteller instead of a preacher. I like to weave my way through the biblical narrative while tying it to practical applications for present moments. I’m married to Sara Jo. She is the love of my life and best friend. Together we are blessed with two wonderful children, Thomas and Maggie, and our son-in-law, Jeremy. In my spare time I enjoy a great cup of dark roast coffee, writing, and doting on our pampered pups.

Larry Sizemore

Campus Life Minister

I have had the privilege to serve as a pastor for over 40 years and after serving a church in Ohio, my wife, Sandy, and I moved to South Carolina in January 2021 where I became the pastor of the Orrville Baptist Church in Anderson. I was asked to lead Orrville in Revitalization and after much prayer and several Revitalization sessions, FBS/UC made Orrville an offer to merge with their church and become part of the Upstate Church Anderson campus. After several meetings with Wayne and Will Bray, and a formal presentation given, a recommendation was made to the church to accept FBS/UC’s offer. Orrville voted in July to accept the offer and opportunity to merge and are now part of Upstate Church Anderson. God is doing a wonderful work in FBS/UC, and Sandy I look forward in being part of it. We are praying for great days ahead in the Upstate!

Erwin Soto

Campus Life Minister
Espanol Simpsonville

Originally from Venezuela, Erwin Soto, his wife Jenny and his 3 children moved to the US in the year 2000 to plant churches among Hispanics. Erwin went to seminary in Venezuela after responding to God's call to serve Him in full-time ministry. He has been blessed to be a minister of the Gospel in Venezuela, the US, and Ecuador where he served as a missionary for 6 years. Erwin and Jenny have a heart for hospitality. Through hosting and serving people, God has used them to see many people surrender to Jesus and grow spiritually. They have 3 adult children and 5 grandchildren. Their children also serve the Lord through their jobs, ministering through leading worship at their church, and one as a full time missionary among unreached people groups.

Maciel Dos Santos

Campus Life Minister
Simpsonville Portuguese

Maciel was born in Alagoas, Brazil. He and his wife, Rosie have 2 children, Steve and Linda. Maciel studied theology in Monte Verde, and has been a missionary in Brazil, Argentina, and Mexico. He is also the founder of the Alcance Foundation Coop.

Anthony Rogers

Pastoral Resident

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and grow at Upstate Church. I am currently in my second year of seminary with Liberty University, with a few more years until I receive my Bachelors in Theology and my Masters in Biblical Studies. My desire is to serve God and His people through leading my family, ministering the Gospel, developing relationships, and positively impacting the community. I and my wife, Sydney, are excited for this journey and to be part of what God is doing in the upstate through First Baptist Simpsonville/Upstate Church.

Josh Pratt

Kids Minister to Elementary

The best part about my job is creating a fun, safe environment where kids can learn what it means to follow Jesus on their level. I believe kids are not simply the future of the church, but are the church. I believe that they are not called to be missionaries once they are adults, but are missionaries right now here in the Upstate. I love teaching and equipping volunteers, kids and parents to take the gospel wherever they do life, as they go about their week. My greatest passion is my wife Lydia and my two kids Jonah and Collins! I love hanging out with family & friends, love good food, good music, a good dance party and I am always down to hoop!

Kayleigh Mayfield

Simpsonville Student Minister

Seeing students, parents, and leaders connect with Jesus to change their world is the biggest gift! From Groups, to Midweek, to Events, I never tire of watching God change lives and bring students into community with Himself and others. I truly believe we have the best students and leaders around, and I'm grateful to serve them! I grew up at FBS, and I've never been more excited about where we're heading as I have been the past few years! Our leadership keeps dreaming big, but God keeps dreaming bigger. My husband Presley and I love being a part of all that God is doing to reach the Upstate. In my spare time, I love to cook meals for friends, play pickleball, read, bake, and be outdoors (hiking/backpacking).

Krystal Manwaring

Simpsonville Kids Coordinator to Elementary

Being part of our Kids ministry is such a joy! I love being able to connect with families and partner with parents to help kids grow in their relationship with Jesus! As a mom myself, I have seen firsthand the blessing of being part of a ministry, and a church that has a heart to help people connect with Jesus to change their world! I visited First Baptist Simpsonville Upstate Church 18 years ago and I was so blessed to see a church that immediately welcomed me and I and my then fiancee, now husband, joined soon after! My husband is a contractor and we are blessed with two kids, one in Kids ministry and one in our Student ministry! I love to read and hang out with family and friends!

Laura Guthrie

Simpsonville Kids Coordinator to Preschool

One of the biggest blessings from having the opportunity to work at FBS Upstate Church is being able to see the fruits of our labor weekly through our precious preschoolers. Watching new families and little ones join us always fills my heart with joy. Being a part of our Family Church Ministry has been such a reward for me. I love developing relationships with our volunteers and seeing their hearts for precious preschoolers too. I'm so thankful that God is allowing me to be a part of this growing community in our church. My husband (Luke) and I are originally from Spartanburg, and after moving around a bit, we've settled in the Five Forks area with our two boys (John and Will.) I taught for 12+ years in the public school system, and now homeschool our oldest son. In my spare time, I enjoy food and fellowship with family and friends and Clemson football.

Alise Martin

Harrison Bridge Student Coordinator
Family Ministries Coordinator

I am originally from North Augusta, SC and moved to the upstate to attend Anderson University. I began interning with the Student Ministry team in the summer of 2020, and I have been here ever since! I now get to serve as Student Coordinator at our Harrison Bridge campus, and Family Ministries Coordinator for all of our campuses! It is such a joy to get to walk with students as they grow with Jesus, and also work along side the other ministries we have here for our families. I met my husband, Jack, at FBS/UC and we are so grateful to get to serve and raise our daughter here in such an awesome church community. In my spare time, I love visiting new coffee shops, playing board games, and being outside with our dogs!

Taylor Cardell

Simpsonville Assistant Coordinator to Preschool

I’m originally from Florida, my family and I moved to Simpsonville, SC in 2020 and we LOVE it here so much, this is absolutely our home! Shortly after moving here we started attending FBS and our church family is so special to us. As a mom of 3 (Emma, Peyton & Baker), it comes easy to love on children, but loving on them and sharing the gospel at this young age is where my heart is! I enjoy building relationships and partnering with the families and volunteers at FBS! I’m so thankful to be apart of such an amazing team that truly shows the love of Jesus! In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends unless it’s storming, then you can find me cuddled up on the couch watching Twister!

Matt Limbaugh

Member Care Team/ Accompanist

I came to FBS | Upstate Church out of retirement after having served in churches as Minister of Music, organist, pianist, music associate, children’s choir coordinator, senior adults, and pastoral care in several churches over a period of 55 plus years, after having started playing in church when I was 13 years old. I graduated from North Greenville University and Carson-Newman University with degrees in voice and organ. Being a part of a church that thinks outside its walls and into the community is a blessing for Sandy and me. We love the excitement in serving God that is seen here. The music program is second to none and the preaching is excellent, presented in such a way that two of our grandchildren who attend with us, 10 and 8 years old, can understand the message presented. Sandy and I have two sons and four grandchildren. Abe, our youngest son plays bass guitar in our worship services. We feel blessed to be a part of such a growing, dynamic church.

Elena Peterson

Anderson Kids Coordinator

I am so thankful to be a part of Upstate Church Kids Ministry! My hometown is Spartanburg, South Carolina, where I grew up as a Southern Baptist pastor’s daughter. Understanding the part that my childhood - both the positive and negative experiences - played in preparing me for the things I would face in my life has inspired me to pursue children’s ministry, where I can be a part of building a solid foundation in a child’s life. I am so excited to be serving as the Upstate Church Anderson’s Kids Coordinator. Currently, I am a student at Anderson University, pursuing my degree in Christian Studies. My hope is to work in kid’s Christian curriculum development down the road.

Sean Sorbin

Anderson Student Specialist

My name is Sean Sorbin, I am just someone who loves Jesus and wants to put my life to knowing Him. Working at the Anderson Campus has been such a blessing to me in learning how to share the gospel, preach the word, and show students who Jesus is. Anderson has quickly become my home and will likely be it for a while in the future. As far as who I am. I like sports a lot, (Cleveland Browns, Ohio State, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Atlanta Braves) watching movies whenever I can, hanging out with friends and family, and exercising.

Jill Adair

Five Forks Kids Coordinator

It is such a blessing to be a part of the Upstate Kids Ministry team! Our family visited Upstate Church a few years ago and felt an immediate connection. We 100% unanimously felt the call to jump right in, serve, and be a part of the ministry that embraced us. As a former foster family, our entire family has a heart and passion for serving children. It brings me such joy to serve as Five Forks Kids Coordinator where I can be a part of planting seeds of truth in our kids while building community and encouraging discipleship amongst our parents and kids volunteers. My husband (Erskine) and I are originally from Clinton and now raise our four children (MariAustin, Ella, Jack and Pari) on our small family farm. I homeschool our 2 youngest and enjoy learning new things and family road-trips.

Zach Bray

Five Forks Student Coordinator

My family and I moved here in 2015 following God’s call on our lives. He’s made it abundantly clear that the Upstate of South Carolina is where we ought to be. I graduate from Anderson university this coming Spring with a degree in Christian Ministry. I have a heart to preach and see people come to know Jesus. I’m pumped for the opportunity that God has given me to serve on the student team here at FBS | UC! When I’m not at church or doing ministry I love to play golf, go to Braves games, and just watch any and every sport that I can find.

Joseph Huntley

Five Forks Worship Leader

My whole life, I have felt called to do ministry and to serve to help lead others to Christ. Since I can remember, I have always been involved in musical theatre and church choir. In 2004, I joined our youth worship band playing guitar and singing. I’ve been involved in worship music and ministry ever since. God has truly blessed me with a beautiful family. My wife Audrey and I both attended North Greenville University. We knew each other, but never really talked or connected at school — my fault, I was too shy. Life took us in different directions. I worked for a newspaper in North Carolina out of college and then for a church in Greer, SC. While working at the church, I went through some hard times personally. Thank the Lord for my Audrey Grace! I asked her, “Do you like old movies?,” and we have been talking and together since. Her kindness and love helped me through those times. I truly feel God brought us together. Now we have a beautiful daughter, Liza Rae! She is our blessing! We started attending Upstate Church in 2021 and loved the community of believers and the structure of the church. It was a place where we felt welcomed and where we could grow our family. In 2022, we really felt called to join and do more at church. It had been four years since I had lead worship for a church, but I felt God tugging at my heart to be a part of it again. I am glad I talked to the worship leaders and directors, because being a part of worship alongside such an amazing body of believers has renewed my spirit and calling to be a part of ministry. I am forever grateful for the staff that encourage me still to this day and for the family we have created at Upstate Church. We love our church and pray for God’s blessing on it for years to come!

Manda Soto

Fountain Inn Kids Coordinator

I began serving in children's ministry in high school and have always loved helping kids grow in their knowledge and understanding of God! When we joined FBSUC, I knew I wanted to start serving in Kids ministry! While I have served at the Simpsonville campus for several years, I am excited to see what God is going to do through Upstate Church Fountain Inn. My husband, Ricky, and I have been attending since 2015 and have two children, Ruth and Micah, and a fur baby, Boone. My kids are involved in kids ministry and it is such a joy to hear them talk about what they are learning. I can't wait to have that same impact on the kids at the Fountain Inn campus. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, baking, and estate sale shopping for fun vintage items.

Canon Claeys

Resident

Hey Guys, my name is Canon Claeys. I just recently moved to South Carolina in January. I am from the Virgin Islands and have been serving in ministry with my family in St.Croix since 2008. I am so blessed to be in this residency program here at FBSUC and to continue serving the Lord in ministry alongside incredible people. My heart has always been to serve the Lord in ministry and specifically in worship. I am a part of the worship team at the Fountain Inn campus and am so blessed to be a part of what the Lord is doing through the church.

MariAustin Adair

Fountain Inn Student Specialist

I was born and raised in the Upstate and my family began attending FBS/Upstate Church in 2020. I am currently a student at Anderson University studying Human Development and Family Studies! I have interned for Upstate Students for several summers but now have the pleasure to serve with students at the Fountain Inn campus! I love anything that involves a coffee shop and good friends. It is one of my greatest joys to get to share Jesus with students and seeing them find their value and purpose in Christ. Nothing is better than seeing them recognize that Jesus is better than anything this world promises.

Ashley Meadors

Harrison Bridge Kids Coordinator

Getting to be the Kids Coordinator at Upstate Church Harrison Bridge enables me to show the love of Christ to children and their families. I assist in connecting families within the church and support volunteers who have a calling to teach and disciple children . I love being able to engage with many people of the church and getting the chance to meet new families. My husband, two kids, and I were a part of the downtown campus for seven years before going to the Upstate Church Harrison Bridge campus. I enjoy bringing together volunteers and families with our other campuses. In my spare time, our family fosters through DSS, I enjoy reading, music, movies, and any chance to spend quality time with friends and family. We like to travel and try new things.

Chad Cashin

Harrison Bridge Worship Leader

My wife and I visited Upstate Church's Harrison Bridge campus in September 2021, and it's been home ever since. I'm a Cleveland, OH native (Go Buckeyes!), a gym rat, sneaker fanatic, gamer of all kinds, and genuinely enjoy cooking for friends and family. My favorite people in the whole world are these two beauties next to me. I don't deserve them, but I'm grateful God saw fit to bless me with them. My favorite food is pizza and it's not even close. Ask me to get lunch at The Slice and I'll cancel other plans to make it happen!

Kristen McFadden

Haywood Kids Coordinator

I have attended FBS since my family moved to South Carolina in 2019. I am so blessed to get to work on the Upstate Kids team and learn from and do life with all the incredible staff members on my team. Having been raised in the church I am passionate about really connecting children to the truth in Scripture and providing a genuine grace-filled atmosphere that displays God’s affection and care for each child that comes in our doors. My husband and I met in our church youth group back in Arizona and got married in 2011. We have 3 beautiful children: Allison, Riley and Nathan who all attend and love Upstate Kids! In my free time I enjoy working out, reading, and singing!

Alaina Robinson

Mauldin Kids Coordinator

I have always felt God’s calling on my life to work with children and I consider it a blessing to be serving on the Upstate Kids team. My heart is to connect kids to God by teaching them about the Bible, and helping them better know Jesus and His great love for them. I find joy in partnering with families and volunteers, and working together with them to disciple God’s precious children. I was born and raised in Western North Carolina - right outside of Asheville, and my husband Miles grew up on Long Island in NY. We fell in love in college, married and moved to Simpsonville in 2014. We joined the church the following year and it wasn’t long before we found ourselves volunteering in kids ministry. We have two children, Kyrsten (11) and Miles (8). In our current season of life we spend a lot of time on the ball field. We enjoy spending time on the lake in the summer and getting together with family every chance we get.

Thomas Hellams

Upstate Sports Coordinator

I am a recent graduate of Anderson University and joined the Residency program in August. I have the amazing opportunity to work with the Mauldin campus students and Upstate Sports. I feel extremely blessed to be a part of a church committed to building relationships to reach the upstate with the Gospel. I enjoy being active when I can, whether exercising, hunting, or playing sports with friends.

Leah Abbott

Kids Childcare Coordinator

One of the biggest perks of being the Kids Childcare Coordinator is getting to go to all the campuses to meet and recruit new volunteers. I also love getting to work behind the scenes and help with inputting data and anything else that might need to be done. I previously worked as the Kids Coordinator at the Mauldin Campus for 3 years. I am originally from Michigan & moved to South Carolina in 1996. My husband grew up at Simpsonville First Baptist & I have been attending since 2002. In my spare time I love reading and spending time with my family. We enjoy going on vacations to Michigan & taking cruises with Royal Caribbean.

Susan Ballinger

Receptionist

Being at the front desk gives me the awesome privilege of serving our members and guests by helping, encouraging, and sometimes just a friendly chat is needed. It's a joy and blessing that I never take lightly! David and I have been members here for 24 years and lead a 2nd half of marriage group on Sundays. We have three grown, married children and 4 grands... so far! He's a Tiger and I'm a Gamecock but thankfully we love the Lord a whole lot more.

Judy Cook

Financial Specialist

I have worked in the Finance Department for the past 9 years and I truly look forward to coming to the office every day. After 42 years in banking, God opened up my "dream mini-banking job"! I love working with money, checks, and balances. To work with our staff is an added bonus, they are the most awesome, godly, supportive group of people. Bobby and I have lived and gone to church in this area all of our lives. An ice storm brought us to Simpsonville First Baptist 20 years ago and we have never looked back. We became involved and have watched so much growth and exciting things happen. We enjoy spending time with our family, especially our three grandchildren, we are very blessed to have family close by. I enjoy working on puzzles and spending time at the beach.

Blaine Darling

Facilities Specialist

One of the best parts of my job is getting to work with every campus and see first hand how God provides for His children. Launching campuses and building teams to make sure every person that comes to either a Sunday morning or one of our events can experience a moment with their Creator is the greatest motivating factor for how we push forward. I spend my weekends either hiking with my wife or working with my dad and brother on one of our many car projects.

One of the best parts of my job is getting to work with every campus and seeing firsthand how God is moving thru the Upstate Church. Launching campuses and building teams to make sure every IT need is met. I spend my weekends either with my kids or with my passion for anything Radio Control - building airplanes, drones, or boats. I’m just a big kid at heart!

Jeff Jennings

Connections Coordinator/ Campus Support

God led my wife and me here to serve in 2010 and the joy and blessings we have experienced watching the impact our church as made on the Upstate has been immeasurable. Our family has grown with the addition of 3 boys and our commitment to serving God through FBS/UC has never been stronger and more rewarding. We truly have the best staff and church family imaginable.

April Kibbe

Events & Connections Coordinator

God brought us to Upstate Church in 2020 and we immediately felt like family. Since joining we have been able to plug in to so many programs that advance the gospel in our family. It is undeniable the presence of God here, not only in the amazing Sunday morning sermons, but in every part of the church body. I have been so grateful for the amount of opportunity that is there for each generation to plug in. We've been blessed to have a child in the Preschool, have learned so much from the Wednesday evening lessons, been able to serve as production volunteers, attended teen events, kids events, small groups, mission trips, bible studies, and more. I am so happy to be a part of coordinating events and connections that will do for others what they have done for my family. My husband, Randy, and I are blessed to have two kiddos at home, a 17 year old daughter, Carly, and a 5 year old son, Logan. We enjoy hiking in the mountains, camping at the lake, trips to the beach, bike riding on the Swamp Rabbit, game nights at home, and pretty much anything involving Jesus, family, & pizza.

Taylor Klue

Upstate Sports Specialist

Being a part of this team has been such a blessing. I started as an intern with Upstate Sports back in 2021 and now being on staff looking back, God has been so kind. Being able to work alongside the best team and serving families and children in the upstate is such a joy! I have a passion for serving, whether it's with kids, students or even greeting at events. I love watching kids fall in love with Jesus and develop a passion for sports. A little about me- I am a middle child. I have an older brother and a younger sister. I have two of the sweetest dogs, both are Goldendoodles! I enjoy all things fashion and love a good iced vanilla coffee.

Ciana Maland

Lead Team Specialist

I cannot express how elated and blessed I feel to be part of a team that values family, community and glorifying God. I find so much joy in investing in relationships and completing tasks in a timely manner. My husband, Paul, and I have been blessed with two sweet girls. In my spare time I enjoy working out, spending time with my friends and their families and being outside.

Doug McCarthy

Upstate Sports Coordinator

As Upstate Sports Coordinator, I enjoy working with our staff and interns to provide a unique opportunity to the community for children and youth to participate in sports and learn about Jesus at the same time. Many families involved in our sports leagues, basketball camp, or the other events we hold throughout the year, are not involved in our church, and may not be involved with any church. We have an opportunity to build relationships, invite players and families to church, and introduce them to Jesus through sports. My family moved to Simposonville in 2004 and began attending First Baptist Simpsonville almost immediately. Beginning in 2007, both of our children became involved in our sports programs and played for several years. Watching our church grow, and being a part of Upstate Sports has been a blessing to me and my family all these years. I look forward to our church continuing to reach families across the upstate through Upstate Sports and our multisite vision.

Melissa Nelson

AP Specialist

My name is Melissa Nelson, and I serve as the AP specialist in the finance department. I have been blessed to work at the church a combined total of 10 years. Numbers may be boring to some, but I love them. I am thankful to play a small role in the day to day operations of the church while literally working with every single staff member in some capacity. My husband, Jon, and I were married in the chapel and have 3 children (Colten, Cullen and Calla). While standing on our worship center stage, we dedicated all 3 back to the Lord. Currently, our 3 keep us busy in many areas including basketball, golf and dance. We are so thankful for First Baptist Church Simpsonville/Upstate Church.

Neal Owens

Facilities Specialist

Working at FBS | UC is a true blessing. Every day I get to work with an amazing group of people. Being a part of the facilities department means I get to interact with everyone on staff and with many people of the congregation. In my spare time, I love to play bass, read, try new pizza restaurants and spend time with my family.

Kim Robinson

Ministry Assistant

I have enjoyed working at FBS the past 14 years. It is such a blessing to get to be a part of all that God is doing in the Upstate. I am a native Simpsonville-ian. My husband and I met at a church here in town many years ago. His dad was the pastor of the church my family attended. Doug was in the Air Force when we married. We lived in South Dakota for 4 years. Both of our kids were born on an Air Force Base. We have 2 kids, Krystal and Joshua. They are grown with their own families now. Doug and I are empty-nesters and we are blessed with 4 amazing and wonderful grandchildren.

Cindy Smith

Ministry Assistant

Meeting people and getting to know them is by far the best thing about working at First Baptist Simpsonville/Upstate Church. We have some pretty amazing people in our church family and I just wish that everyone could hear the stories of faith and God’s work in someone’s life that are often shared with us. Our family has been a part of this church for over 30 years so we have known four pastors (and many former staff people), built relationships with many people, witnessed our girls grow in their faith and be baptized, and have watched our church become what it is today. My husband, Danny (not the Danny who owns Danny’s Fillin’ & Fixin’. Both great guys but my Danny does not work on cars! :D), serves as a deacon and coaches with our sports program even though our girls aged out of the program many years ago. You may see him in the Kids’ area making sure everything is safe and secure on Sunday mornings. Our oldest daughter, Danielle, and her husband, Alonso live in Fort Mill. Our second daughter, Devon, lives here and attends church here (you may see her checking in your child in the Kids’ area on Sundays). Our youngest daughter, Delaney, also lives here, attends FBS/UC, and is actively involved as a girls’ discipleship leader in our Student Ministry. I love traveling, reading, cooking, and spending time with my family. If you need to get in touch with me at the office – wait until after 9:00 am so the coffee has had time to kick in!

Gale Sosebee

Receptionist

I began working as part-time receptionist at FBS | UC in February 2024. Previously to this position, I had worked for 22 years in Athletic Finance, as well as, Education/Finance for 15 years at another SBC church in the Greenville area. I truly feel that these experiences were part of God’s life plan for me and that they are not part of my story by happenstance. I also feel that as I serve now at FBS | UC that this is also an opportunity God has ordained for me at this time in my life. It is an honor and privilege to meet, greet and serve in this faith family. My entire family has been involved in all aspects of church life over the past 51+ years. I was married to my high school sweetheart, Larry, for 45 years (1973-2019) and together we were blessed with a daughter, Carrie (Chad) and son, Corey (Kristen). Our children not only blessed us with their spouses, but our family continued to grow as we welcomed six beautiful grandchildren! It is such a joy to be the grandparent of Caleb, Caroline, Mary Jane (MJ), Luke, Susanna, and Joe (namesake of his PaPa Larry Joe)!!! My daily prayer is that I never take for granted that “this is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24). I want to be consistently seeking His joy and purpose in whatever He places along this remaining earthly journey for me! I truly believe that He is Sovereign over us and that everything is within His control. My prayer is that I am faithful in allowing Him to guide my steps in all things.

Sheryl Tepper

Ministry Assistant

I am blessed to be working for my church with this group of people. Can you believe they have allowed me to continue working beyond retirement age? So if there is a question regarding membership or baptism, I'm your person! I get an up close view of how God is using FBS/UC. Seeing people come to Jesus is such a thrill. My husband and I enjoy our wonderful family. We have five terrific grandkids.

Greg Ward

Facilities Specialist

I have enjoyed working at FBS|UC for the past 4 years. My wife Jessica and I have lived in Simpsonville for 16 years. We have two wonderful daughters! In my spare time, I enjoy camping.

Lynda Watson

Ministry Assistant

The favorite part about working at First Baptist Simpsonville/Upstate Church is that I get to work with all ages. I have worked with students, music ministry, groups and senior adults. My husband, Pat and I moved to Simpsonville with a 3 month old and new no one 26 years ago. We walked into the Simpsonville First Baptist Child Development Center as it was called then with our son looking for a Daycare. We felt that this is where God had called us to. Our plan was to visit several churches. We visited 2 Sunday School classes and we were at home. We joined First Baptist in December of 1996. Our children Zachary and Miranda have grown up in this church. I have been on staff since April 2013. I love helping people and seeing how God is working in their lives.

Natalie Williams

Kids Support Specialist

Working with children has always been my passion and joy! Serving in the kids ministry as the Kids Support Specialist at FBSUC allows me to serve alongside a great team and share the love of Jesus with kids and their families while helping them grow in their walk with the Lord! Since joining the church in 2002, I have had the unique opportunity of seeing the church grow while being a part of the various ministries. I am also a registered nurse and practiced in pediatrics for almost 10 years. My husband, Jamie, and I have 3 Children; Teagan, Ava, and Colton who are all involved in the kids ministry. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, the beach, exercising, a good bowl of ice cream, and the Atlanta Braves!

Drew Correll

Resident

My heart is to see people come to know how awesome God's love and God's Word is for them! Upstate Church has been my home for the last couple of years and it is such an honor and a privilege to work for an organization I so strongly believe in. I recently graduated from Anderson University in December 2023 and then joined the residency program right after. In classic AU fashion, two days after graduation, my wife, Rylie, and I got married. Young Adults are the best, not just because I work with them, but also because I am one. You can find me always playing disc golf or pickleball or some kind of board game.

Rylie Correll

Resident

My husband, Drew, and I became members of FBS/Upstate Church in the fall of 2021, as soon as the Anderson campus launched. The church blessed us immensely during our time at Anderson University, and we knew that when it came time to graduate, we weren't ready to leave. When we heard about the Residency Program at Upstate Church, we knew it was too amazing of an opportunity to pass up. God led us to start the program in January of 2024, just 2 short weeks after we got married. I get to work with our strategy team, utilizing my BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (2022) and my Masters of Public Service Administration (2023). It is an honor to serve with a church that has such a strong mission. In my free time, you can find me taking long walks, watching a movie with my husband, or playing pickleball with friends.

Evan Denton

Resident

Having just finished my undergrad at U of SC, I felt called to work in ministry. When I heard about the residency with First Baptist Simpsonville/ Upstate Church, I knew it would be a great way to gain experience in international missions. Upstate Church being missions-oriented means I’ll be able to learn from very experienced men and women who have taken part in the Great Commission as I intend to. Born and raised in Simpsonville, it’s nice to be back at home and reconnect with the community that raised me. I am excited to work with Upstate Church to further the Gospel’s impact in our local community. When I’m not at church, I’m either at Planet Fitness, reading, or embarrassing some poor fool in chess.

Nora Ethridge

Resident

Hey Y’all! My name is Nora, and I started working as a resident for Upstate Church in August 2024. It is a privilege to be a part of the way the Lord is working in the upstate to change people’s lives! As a resident for the Kid’s Ministry, I will get to come alongside an incredible team to reach kids with varying needs through our Haven ministry program. For those who don’t know me, I love anything outdoors, whether it be kayaking, paddle boarding, camping, or biking. I also love a good book, riveting podcast, board game nights, and time with friends and family.

Lucas Lyons

Resident

I'm from Laurens, SC, and have lived there my whole life. I got married in November of 2023 to my amazing wife MaKailey! I graduated from Anderson University with a Bachelor's in Christian Studies back in December of 2023! I have a huge heart for students and young adults who need to hear the hope we have in Christ! I enjoy trying new food, traveling, hunting, fishing, reading comics, watching Star Wars, and anything "nerdy"! I'm excited to see how the Lord will move through the Upstate and beyond!

Jackson McNair

Resident

I have been attending First Baptist Simpsonville/Upstate Church before I could even walk! I ended up going to college at Ole Miss where I discovered I had a passion for reaching lost middle school/high school kids through Young Life! Now I am on the Student Ministry team with Upstate Church through the residency program!

Trace Wingard

Resident

I am originally from Cayce, South Carolina, but moved to the Upstate to attend Anderson University. What God is doing in and through First Baptist Simpsonville-Upstate Church is simply incredible- I have never been a part of a church that equally values commitment to mission and community quite like our church. I have the privilege to serve on the Student Team and the Spiritual Formation Team at our church. I am passionate about building relationships and seeing lives transformed by the gospel. I am currently working on my master's from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In my free time, I love traveling with my family, playing pickleball, and watching a good movie.
